My work comments on the backcountry experience, and explores the visual skills developed through geologic study paired with art. Through plein aire painting and painting from memory in the studio, I convey scenes which are memories and renditions of my explorations in the wilderness and public lands of the U.S.
This work serves as a portfolio of my studies completed while working or living in the wilderness, and reflections of that experience from the studio, 2010-present. These pieces have been created as concrete memories of the many miles I have traveled on foot. They have been painted often in one or two sittings, and carried in my backpack alongside all the other essentials of camping.
